Review 2017 - a year of new records
2017 will be a year to remember. New records were set in 2 key areas of
STAUFFENBERG BLOODSTOCK. The known 50 wins of the graduates are a new benchmark, as are the €1.020.000 prizemoney, they won during 2017. 18 races were won in England/Ireland, 15 in France and only 4 at home in Germany - that shows the international orientation. 24 wins were achieved by horses bred by Graf and Grafin Stauffenberg, the name Marion and Philipp act together. The best horses in 2017 consigned by
STAUFFENBERG BLOODSTOCK as yearlings were the 3yo
TRAIS FLUORS, a Gr.3 winner and Gr.1 placed in France and the 4yo
VIA FIRENZE, a Stakeswinner in France and Gr.2 placed in Dubai. They were prepped at
SCHLOSSGUT ITLINGEN, the former additionally raised there as a yearling and was offered in Book I of the Tattersalls October Sales. The latter was sold at the BBAG Yearling Sales on behalf of their breeder Haras de Saint Pair.
The sales season provided new records as well, as for the first time
STAUFFENBERG BLOODSTOCK sold a yearling for more than GNS500.000 at the Tattersalls Ocorber Sales and not only one, but two. The highest prize of GNS575.000 was achieved for
Lot 40 a filly by
GALILEO, which provided the
PINHOOKING SYNDICATE a very profitable sale, as
STAUFFENBERG BLOODSTOCK had bought her for GNS300.000 at the Tattersalls December Foal Sales the year before. She was the first yearling by the sire bought by Godolphin at Tattersalls for many years. The next highest one was
Lot 272 a colt from the first crop of
SEA THE MOON, which made GNS525.000 to the bid of Roger Varian. He was prepped and consigned on behalf of Gestut Gorlsdorf. So the two highest prized yearlings from Germany were both prepped at
SCHLOSSGUT ITLINGEN and sold by
STAUFFENBERG BLOODSTOCK.
For breeders it is very important to have all foals safe on the ground and as many mares as possible in foal. So the 8 foals of the 2018 crop bred by Marion and Philipp were all born healthy at
SCHLOSSGUT ITLINGEN, but are the lowest number for the couple for some years. However all 10 mares covered in 2017 are in foal, as well as the 10 mares of foreign breeders which were boarded at the stud during the breeding season to visit stallions in Germany.
The small racing stable did not provide a winner, as the homebred 3yo filly
FRANGIPANI, the only horse in training at the beginning of 2017, injured herself whilst in training with Andreas Suborics and will be covered in 2018. Luckily she had won at 2. Marion and Philipp acquired at the Tattersalls December Sales the 3yo filly
RELEVANT, who traces back to their foundation mare
FRAULEIN TOBIN. Still a Maiden, she ran twice before the end of the year and finished once 2nd and once 3rd, so should win before she is added to the broodmare band at
SCHLOSSGUT ITLINGEN in 2018.
