08/12/12 the success story of AZEVILLE
from a €20.000 foal to a €250.000 3yo
So far the story of AZEVILLE (Shamardal-At Once) is a success story which has resulted in gains for every party involved except of the breeder.
AZEVILLE was bred by Gestut Zoppenbroich and offered by
STAUFFENBERG BLOODSTOCK as a foal at the Arqana December Sales. Being by dual classic winner
SHAMARDAL and out a Stakes winner, breeder and consignor were hopeful for a good sale. On the other hand
SHAMARDAL was already seen as a failure and his stud fee had been halfed. He had not fired with his first 2yo's, the filly was quite delicate and like most of the offspring of the stallion, not a very good walker. Unnamed at that time it was sold to Gerard Decoq for €20.000 - exact the stud fee of
SHAMARDAL. In August of the following year, the filly was reoffered at the Arqana Yearling Sale. In the meantime
LOPE DE VEGA had won the French 2000 Guineas and the French Derby as his sire
SHAMARDAL and so it was no wonder his offspring were in demand.
AZEVILLE was sold for €120.000 to leading owner Gerard Augustin-Normand via his bloodstock advisor Sylvain Vidal. Francois Rohaut formed the filly to a Stakes winner and so she fetched as a wild card €250.000 at this years Arqana December Sale purchased by Robert Nataf. She would have fetched a higher prize would she not have been tested positive for piroplasmosis.
